The Northern Wastes
The Northern Wastes
The collective name for the area north of the Tradeway, a lawless and uncivilized land, is the Northern Wastes. Spotted by ruins of failed civilizations and spoken of in the tales of bard’s and hearths. This area is for you the players to denote sites of interest, rumors and adventure locations that you discover. I might add information from time to time to augment this, but the intent is that this information is for you to record as you see fit.
Sheep Ranchers Raided
Cyrus reports that several of the ranchers to the West of Highstead have been raided by unknown forces. The raids seem to be concentrated to the Northern most ranches. If interested, Cyrus will point us towards a recently victimized rancher.
The town guard of Highstead reports that several merchants have complained about a spate of bandit attacks along the East Tradeway in Penepry forest. However, the town guard knows no details regarding the attacks.
Abandoned Dwarf Mine – Gilad Pendrad
Some regulars at The Scarlet Bard Tavern have researched the legends of the old adventuring group, and it is rumored that one of the first areas explored by that group was an old abandoned dwarf mine to the north of town. It is also rumored that the group never finished completely exploring the mine.
The stout Tarn Ironhand, rumored to be the best smith in town, has advised Dawn’s Herald and Frunk that they are most likely asking about Gilad Pendrad – the Glittering Stair. This mine was a small and promissing gem stone mine that met with tragedy and was sealed by the Dwarves. Being a prideful folk, the reason behind the tragedy is known only to the clansmen of Gilad Pendrad.
That said, the Dwarves did excavate and fortify a tor standing watch over the mine’s enterance. This structure still stands today and is rumored to have been inhabited by various residents of the Northern wilds.
According to master Ironhand’s recollection, the site itself isn’t that far off the old northern road. After a journey of a few days, shortly after the road crosses the Ringsiria river and exits the Peneprie forest we should find the old access road to the mine, though it is undoubtedly in even worse repair than the northern road itself. This road should take us to the site in less than a full day’s travel. The mine itself sits toward the Eastern extent of Moradin’s Cresent and not far from the headwaters of the Ringsiria itself.
Valley of Caves
Some regulars at The Scarlet Bard Tavern have researched the legends of the old adventuring group, and it is rumored that one of the first areas explored by that group was a cave ridden valley to the north of town. It is also rumored that the group never finished exploring all of the caves in this valley.
